Walking With Children Volunteers

Starting in of March, 2007 we will be needing a long term volunteer that can serve for a minimum of 6 months.  This person must be independent with the Spanish language, be able to manage themselves independently in a foreign country and be willing to assist in the 24 hour care of our children.  Those who would like to apply should contact Chris Frederick at: cfrederick@walkingwithchildren.org

From February to July, 2006 Walking With Children had its first mid-term volunteer.  Referred by our Wisconsin Team Leader, her name is Michelle Buelow. She studied pre-med and majored in Spanish and is currently a medical student at the Madison School of Medicine, Wisconsin.  Her goal is to study medicine and public health with a emphasis on Infectious Disease and third world medicine. Michelle accomplished many things during her time with WWC including developing our volunteer program, translating for medical brigades, organizing the details for our inauguration, etc. while successfully immersing herself into the Honduran culture and bonding with its people.  She is a bright, hard-working, fun, young woman and did an amazing job for us.

In April, 2006, our second volunteer, Hugh Edwards-Neil arrived. Hugh worked with us part-time until June, 2006.  Hugh and I had been corresponding via email since 2005. He is both a British and Australian citizen and has a master's degree in Psychology. Hugh helped to develop our Psychological program while discussing the growing concerns for children-adolescents living with HIV/AIDS. While he was here he also learned Spanish and volunteered in different projects in the Tegucigalpa area.  It still amazes me that he learned Spanish, the Honduran culture and was able to help as much as he did in just three months. He truly inspires me.

We love our volunteers — thank you!
