Guardianships
What happens to a child when his or her parents die from HIV/AIDS related illness? This is a difficult question, and there is no easy answer. One child may have other relatives who are willing to provide care, while another child may end up in a government program or institution. Families living in poverty often do not have the resources or money to pay a lawyer to set up legal guardianship plans to provide for their children in such event. Walking With Children and Caminando Con Niños recognized this need and are honored that Caminando Con Niños was chosen to be the recipient of a CAAF grant (Children Affected by AIDS Foundation) to tackle the issue. With help from CAAF, Caminando Con Niños recently secured legal guardianship plans for 100 children, so these families have at least that peace and security should the parent face the worst outcome from this terrible disease.

These are both real life examples of people we have helped through advocacy. With a belief in human dignity, we champion the rights of those affected by HIV so they may receive the education, the treatment, the care they need to have a better quality of life.
