Legal Status of the Honduran-Based Foundation:
We obtained our legal status as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in June, 2007. Currently our lawyer is working on the additonal licensing and regulations that need to be completed so that we are in-line with Honduran law with the intention to begin operations as soon as January, 2008.
The Phoenix Foundation raised $5,900 at a party held by the Tricoci family on September 30th. The money will be going to purchase capital items needed to open the home. This group of nearly 70 friends and colleagues of Cheryl Tricoci also brought to the party; baby clothing, infant car seats and walkers as donations for Walking With Children. It was a very successful event!
Grand Rapids, Michigan held their annual AIDS walk on September 29th. Therese Althouse had requested that Walking With Children be included in the list of recipient organizations and we are happy to announce that $5,000 will be donated to Walking With Children as a result of the walk. The event raised a total of $50,000 and Walking With Children was one of many very deserving local organizations who will benefit from these donations.
Ricardo Pineda from Sacramento, California is starting to motivate local area Catholic Girl Schools to donate to Walking With Children. He will be showing the school’s administration the video and project description and asking them to consider including us as a charity they support. These schools have a non-uniform day where kids pay a small fee to come to school in regular clothes and not their uniform. The money raised from this event is usually donated to local charities. It is a great way for kids to learn about giving. We are also talking about me coming to California to speak at the schools.
Jaimes, Janice and their team of volunteers at the Phoenix Foundation have been very busy working concession stands at the St. Louis Cardinals baseball stadium to raise money for Walking With Children. Jaimes says it is a lot of hard work but when you are done you feel like you’ve done something that is making a difference. All of the concession stands are staffed by volunteers trying to raise money for their favorite charity. Jaimes suggests others check out their local professional teams to see if they have a program similar to St Louis. It sounds like a fun time with friends and you can help us keep this work going as well.
The Wisconsin Team has been busy working with CAMO (a Honduran and U.S.-based organization) to ship our in-kind donations to Honduras. The team is going to Cleveland to meet with the director of the organization and to see how to prepare the donations for shipping. Thank you for all of your hard work in collecting, packaging and getting these items ready for shipping.
