Since its founding in 2005, Fundacion Caminando Con Niños, a Honduran non-governmental organization (NGO), has been helping children, families and communities affected by HIV. Many have endured tremendous hardships stemming from sickness, malnutrition and poverty. All embrace the hope for a better tomorrow in their daily battle against this life-threatening disease. Together, Walking With Children, Inc and Fundacion Caminando Con Niños provide hope for these children and families.
With a wisdom beyond their years, many HIV affected children dream of simply living a normal life. Despite a regimen that includes daily medications and frequent doctor visits, Fundacion Caminando Con Niños, through its Community Case Management program, helps HIV/AIDS affected children and their families develop a healthy routine which includes school, medical care and nutritional monitoring. Additionally, adult family members receive nutritional, medical and vocational counseling, educational scholarships, vocational training, group training and/or referrals to community, governmental and medical agencies as needed. When beneficiaries cannot come to them, the Caminando Con Niños staff conducts home visits to monitor needs of the families, deliver food baskets, medicine and counseling. These families, who struggle daily with illness, poverty and loss, express how grateful they are to have the caring staff of Caminando Con Niños walk this difficult journey with them.
